Chapel of Our Lady of Hope

The Chapel of Our Lady of Hope, located in Abrunhosa, is a monument classified as a Property of Public Interest. The chapel, in the Baroque Joanine style, was built in the 18th century by order of Canon Luís Bandeira Galvão, to fulfill a vow made to his uncle. Its simple façade contrasts with the interior’s beauty, filled with gilded woodwork, blue and white tiles, and paintings on the ceiling and walls. The pipe organ, crafted by Francisco António Solha, is also classified as a Property of Public Interest. This sanctuary has been featured in several works about the region’s heritage.

Convent of the Lord Holy Christ of Fraga

The Convent of Senhor Santo Cristo da Fraga, a late 18th-century structure classified as a site of public interest, stands on the southeastern slope of the Serra da Fraga. It originated from a chapel built on the spot where a miraculous image of the crucified Christ was discovered, as two men searched for a stone to make a millstone. Although only the church and the ruins of the temple remain, it is still one of the main points of interest in the municipality. The façade of the temple stands out, along with the interior altarpieces in baroque, rococo, and revivalist gilded woodwork. It also houses a human and cultural treasure: the tomb of the renowned scholar and virtuous friar Joaquim de Santa Rosa de Viterbo, who lived in the Convent of Fraga and wrote the Elucidário and other valuable books. He is buried in the floor of the cloister.
